Chester Travels (colloquially known as Chester Luggage) have only been around since 2017, but we believe the products they have come up with so far – the Chester Minima Carry-On and the Regula and Maxima Checked Suitcases – will be around for a good, long time. We believe this is a new addition to the best luggage brands!
We’ll take a closer look at them in the Chester luggage reviews that follow below. We’ll also check out what buyers think of them.
And, drumroll please, we have a Chester CouponCode to share!

About Chester Travels
According to the company, Chester’s aim is to manufacture minimalistic, high-quality luggage in a traditional design in a medium price range. They went about creating luggage they would want themselves and road-tested it to “get it just right.”
Their estimate is that the average traveler pays about 30% more for luggage of equal quality as their own. (They COULD be referring to Away luggage, which makes comparable luggage of similar quality.)
They claim that their luggage is “unbreakable,” a bold statement indeed!
Chester Luggage Guarantee And Warranty
This is actually our favorite feature to present in this Chester luggage review:
Chester offers a 100-day trial period for your Minima, Regula or Maxima!
If you don’t like your new suitcase, for any reason, you can simply contact the company, and they will send you a free shipping label to make your return. You will then get a full, no-questions-asked refund, assuming you didn’t mangle the case while you had it. This is awesome and means you can buy risk-free!
So, make sure you plan your purchase so that you will actually use the case at least once in the first 100 days after it arrives. Since 100 days is more than 3 months, the chances are that you will have plans to use it soon after you get it. This time period would, for example, cover the entire summer and a little more.
Chester Luggage Warranty
Chester obviously considers both the Minima, the Regula, and the Maxima to be very durable, so they cover them with a 10-year limited warranty. This includes:
- Cracks or breaks in the shell
- Wheels, handles, or telescoping handles that break off and are no longer usable
- Zippers that can no longer be opened or closed
In short, if the functionality of the bag is compromised, the warranty covers that.
If this happens, the company will “provide a repaired or replacement Luggage” and also cover the cost for the return.
Pretty neat, in our opinion. Not many luggage manufacturers take the cost of returning the luggage for repairs under warranty.
Materials and Durability of Chester Luggage
Chester Luggage cases should be some of the most rugged luggage available today because they’re made with a polycarbonate shell.
This thermoplastic (polycarbonate material) is used when impact resistance is important. There is just enough “give” that it can absorb external hits and yet not show dents or dings that you might see on other cases made from, for example, ABS.
Feel free to transport those delicate collectible souvenirs on your trip back home. The military-grade materials will protect them safely.
It’s also fairly lightweight as well as water-resistant, so a little rain or a splash from a puddle shouldn’t give cause for worry. Your delicates inside will stay warm and dry.
The manufacturer also claims that the shell is easy to clean. This means that if you (or someone else!) spill something, you should be able to wipe it off easily.
Maybe, but this is merely speculating, it also means that any scuff marks are easily removed.
It sounds like a good choice of material for Chester Luggage!
Wheels, Handles, and Lock
Both the carry-on Minima and the checked suitcases Regula and Maxima have four double spinner “state-of-the-art” wheels that rotate a full 360 degrees, making it easy to roll as smoothly in an airport as on the rough terrain you can find in some places.
The rollers are especially quiet, so you won’t annoy other travelers as if you were pushing that one shopping cart with the squeaky wheel. The wheels are also somewhat protected by the wheelhouse, especially on the Minima.
The aluminum, telescoping handle locks in two positions. No matter how tall you are or how long your arms are, you should be able to pull it behind you with ease.
When it’s time to pick it up (in the case of the Minima to shove it into the overhead bin), you’ll find a grab handle on the top and another on the side to make the lift a breeze.
The recessed TSA-approved lock on the top of the bags will keep unwanted hands from getting inside your Chester luggage but will still let inspectors easily open it if they get curious about your bag in customs.
The two zipper pulls will be locked into the faceplate. You slide the mechanism to the right, and the zippers will pop up once the lock is opened.
As with other similar locks, you initially set the number wheel to all zeros. With the aid of a pen (or similar device), you can change the combination to whatever 3-digit setting you want.
Just like changing a default password, you should make this change soon after you get your case. You should also make it a number you won’t forget so that you don’t have to write it down.
You also get a handsome leather luggage tag, always a nice little extra.
Interior Design of the Chester Luggage
Inside all three current pieces of Chester luggage, there are two like-sized compartments.
Both sides can be sealed off with a zippered divider, no risk of your private stuff falling out when the bag is opened. There is one big and two smaller mesh pockets on the divider panels for storing smaller items, so they don’t scatter themselves and become hard to find. You’ll also be able to pack your techs separately and safely.
A feature we really love is the removable laundry pouch! With this, you can keep your used underwear and socks separate from your still clean ones. No more guesswork around which one is used, and which one is not, lol!
The inside is fully lined with a distinguished striped fabric.
Now it’s time in our Chester luggage reviews to take a look at the Minima, the Regula, and the Maxima separately!
Chester Luggage Reviews: Minima Carry On, Does It Fit Everywhere?
What Do Buyers Think About The Chester Minima?
Virtually everyone who already owns this hard shell carry on loves it. Even those very few who have anything negative to say about it still manage to praise it in some way too.
Below is a summary of how people (504 at this point) all over the web have rated the luggage. Pretty impressive ratings! The average is 4.8 out of 5 stars.
(We’re aware that one percent is missing here, that is lost between the decimals of each score.)
So why did a few people not like it?
One had the very bad luck of a zipper breaking. Ouch. The warranty should easily take care of that, though. Other reasons are zipper pull breaking (ouch again), too small, color too glossy (Surf), exterior material looks cheap. We all have different tastes!
A good point made by one user is that “a handle on the bottom would make it easier when lifting into the bin“. We agree and hope that future editions of the Chester luggage Minima can have that.
Just one (former) owner returned their Chester luggage because they didn’t like the feel of the handle. No one else has complained of any problems with it.
This same owner also feared that the case would be a dirt magnet without putting it to the test. Other users have not made any complaints about that.
Other users think the case is well-organized; they especially appreciate the laundry bag. We wish every luggage manufacturer had this feature. It just makes so much sense – no more guessing which pair of socks haven’t been worn yet.
The spinner wheels seem to work very well. We cannot find any complaints about them at all.
Owners note that the zippers are of high quality. There shouldn’t be any sticking or fabric tearing related to them.
People really like the overall look of the case too. Some owners even report getting compliments on their Minima from other travelers.
You can get this case in a nice array of colors – Desert, Fog, Haze, Onyx, Snow, Spritz, Storm, or Surf. Our favorite? Surf, it’s like a summer day!
What are the Main Features of the Minima?
We’ve mentioned a few of the features already – the handy laundry bag, the sturdy zippers, and the spinner wheels. There are several other items you’ll want to know about that we’ll cover below.
First, measurements: risk (we love this!)
- Overall size: 21.8” x 13.7” x 9.0”
- Weight: 7 lbs.
- Capacity: 38L
- Warranty: 10 Year Limited Warranty
- Satisfaction Guaranteed: 100-day trial and free returns means that you can buy with no risk (we love this!)
You can also check out the Chester Travels Minima Carry On directly on the Chester site, and don’t forget to use the coupon code TRAVELGEARDEPOT!
Back to our Chester luggage reviews: The interior of the Minima has a capacity of 38 liters. That’s about 1.34 cubic feet.
Chester says you can think of this as a “three- or four-day weekend’s worth of stuff.” Of course, this all depends on what you think you need over the course of three or four days.
Some travelers could fit a full week’s worth of stuff in this amount of space, while others would barely last a day or two. Still, on average, we think Chester is probably in the ballpark at 3 or 4 days.
The Minima was designed to fit into the storage compartments of the vast majority of airlines. We think you’ll be hard-pressed to find an overhead storage area that can’t handle it, but please make sure to always check with your airline before you go.
Chester also claims that, at 7 pounds, this piece of luggage is “one of the lightest in the industry for hard-shell cases.” Based on our own search for lightweight carry-on luggage, we know there are lighter bags, but 7 pounds is definitely in the lighter end of the spectrum.
Is Chester Minima the Right Carry On Luggage for You?
The Chester company clearly targets a large group of people with the Minima. From business travelers to the occasional weekend warrior and virtually everyone in between, Chester thinks the Minima is for you.
To make the decision personal, ask yourself questions like these:
- Do I like to travel light?
- Can I travel light? (If not, you need the Regula Checked Suitcase!)
- Can I travel light enough to fit everything into 1.3 cubic feet?
- Is the Minima likely to last long enough for me?
If you can answer “yes” to most of those questions, then we think the Minima is an excellent choice for you.
Conclusion – Does It Fit Everywhere?
Checking our Cabin Baggage Table, it actually does seem to adhere to most common airlines’ restrictions concerning carry-on luggage, with the exception of Qatar Airways. But please, always check with your travel agent or the airline you’re traveling with!
Unless you are someone who really can’t or doesn’t want to travel with just a few possessions in a carry-on, we can’t think of a reason not to like the Chester Minima. There just doesn’t seem to be any downside to this piece of luggage.
Right then, let’s get on with our Chester luggage reviews and see what the checked sizes have to offer!

What Do Buyers Think About the Chester Luggage Regula and Maxima?
If you think the Minima was well-rated, you will not believe your eyes now. The Regula’s average rating is a whopping 4.9 stars out of 5 possible!
Being quite a new release, there are so far “only” 32 reviews around. The Maxima is so new it has no reviews as yet. When they start to accumulate, we’ll update!
UPDATE! The Maxima now has acquired some ratings around the web, at an average of 4.8 stars out of 5. Buying this hard suitcase is a safe bet for sure.
What are the Main Features of the Chester Regula and Maxima?
- Overall size Regula: 26.0” x 18.5” x 11.0”
- Capacity: 69 L
- Weight: 9.5 lbs.
- Overall size Maxima: 31.0” x 21.5” x 13.0”
- Capacity: 113 L
- Weight: 12.0 lbs.
- Warranty: 10 Year Limited Warranty
- Satisfaction Guaranteed: 100-day trial and free returns means that you can buy with no risk (we still love this!)
The Regula measures 26 inches tall by 18.5 inches wide by 11 inches deep. When flying, this compact size will let you avoid any extra baggage charges. These measurements give you just over 2.4 cubic feet (69 liters) of space inside.
With proper packing, you can fit a lot into that amount of room.
Need more space for packing? Then choose the Maxima!
You can rest assured that both Regula and Maxima meet TSA and IATA checked baggage guidelines, so there will be no extra hassles in that department.
Being on the small side also means that the suitcases don’t weigh that much either. Empty, the Regula weighs only 9.5 pounds (4.3 kg), and the Maxima only 12.0 pounds. So, unless you’re going to be carrying a load of bricks, you should find them easy enough to tote from place to place.
The Regula and Maxima both have one feature that is not present on the Minima. If you want to lay the bag down on the side, there are four knobs or feet that will keep the surface off the ground. Thoughtful!
Conclusion – Good Choice for Frequent Flyers?
One business traveler who flies frequently and now owns a Regula says it all:
“I have to pack and repack for work trips A LOT, and I usually dread it but packing in my Chester makes me feel organized and together”.
And of course, they come in the same number of no less than eight colors to choose from!
Chester Luggage FAQ
How do you clean your Chester Luggage?
In the case of scuffs, spills, or anything else that threatens the cleanliness of your Chester Luggage, you can clean the exterior shell as well as the interior nylon lining using a damp washcloth, warm water, and mild soap. If there is a mark on the shell of the luggage that is being stubborn and won’t come out, it is okay to try to buff the mark out using a Magic Eraser.
Is Chester Luggage waterproof?
Chester Luggage is water-resistant; however, this is not the same as being 100 percent waterproof. So, you still want to exercise caution when around water.
Do the suitcases come with TSA locks?
Chester Luggage has integrated TSA locks that use a zipper to secure the luggage and prevent unwanted access. Authorized TSA personnel, however, will always be able to get inside the luggage for an inspection when necessary.
What makes Chester Luggage stand out from other luggage brands?
This luggage is good for either the frequent business traveler or someone who only goes on less than a handful of trips per year. It makes the perfect carry-on for the plane and has an unbreakable exterior shell, ample packing space, it is ultra-lightweight luggage and has 360-degree spinner wheels to make it easy to move around. It features everything you would want in a suitcase and at a fair and reasonable price point.
Do I really need to purchase a luxury luggage set?
When you purchase the right luggage, you will find that it will last much longer than the cheaper suitcases that are much less quality. So, when shopping for a new set of luggage, you want to consider how often you travel, what features you want to have, and how much money you are willing to spend. A good set of quality luggage can make traveling much easier and more convenient.
Will there be any other new Chester Luggage products?
Chester is still a relatively new company; however, they didn’t anticipate the kind of positive feedback and growth they are experiencing. For this reason, they claim to be coming out with new products and colors for 2020.
Can you store these suitcases in one another?
Yes. Chester travel luggage was specially designed so that all the suitcases will fit neatly inside the other to make storing them more convenient. The Minima Carry On, for example, will fit nicely inside of the Regula medium checked luggage. In the same respect, the Regula medium checked luggage will fit inside of the Maxima large checked luggage.
What warranty is offered on this luggage?
Chester travel luggage is covered by a 10-year limited warranty. This means that any damage that happens to the shell of the luggage, the wheels, handles, zippers, and anything else contributing to its functional value will be covered under this warranty. This luggage has been made to be durable, and if anything does happen to break, they are happy to fix or replace it to make sure you have luggage that works exactly as intended.
