We will start with looking at what those who have already bought this hardside luggage think about it.
What Buyers Have To Say About Nicole Miller Rainbow Hardside Luggage
We will start by giving you a quick and easily accessible overview. Below you can see the ratings at a glance. To gain a better understanding from more data we have fused the reviews from each luggage size, and then calculated the percentages.
The average buyer rating overall of these Nicole Miller bags is 4.2 out of 5 stars.
As you easily see, almost 7 out of 10 people gave their bag 5 stars, and 8 out of 10 rated it 4 or 5 stars. But as we can also see, 6% (half a person out of 10!) only gave it one star, and were clearly not happy with bag they had bought. We will take a closer look at what this is all about.
What Buyers Didn't Like About the Nicole Miller Rainbow Luggage
Getting a few percentages of low ratings is normal, it's very hard to please everyone. However, to give you an accurate representation of the quality and possible problems with this bag we have looked into the causes for the 17% (almost 2 out of 10) buyers who rated it 1 or 2 stars.
There were three types of causes for the poor reviews. First, some received a bag that seemed to have been used already. This showed in stains, scratches and scuff marks on the bag. This is of course a disappointment and not acceptable, and it's completely natural to give a low rating under those circumstances.
The second type of cause for a poor review was that the bag got scratched and received black marks after luggage handling at the airport. This is not a nice experience, but to some extent happens occasionally to all luggage (not softsides of course) that go through the rough handling of checked luggage at airports.
However, considering the low percentage of buyers who experienced this it seems far-fetched to draw the conclusion that it's an inherent flaw with the Rainbow bags. Having said that, light colored luggage will be more sensitive to scuff marks simply because the marks show more than on a dark color.
Finally, a couple of buyers had problems with the wheels. Again, a total nuisance when it happens, but with spinners it's more common across the board of brands to encounter wheel-related issues than it is with inline wheels. It does not seem to be a major design flaw in the Nicole Miller bags specifically considering the low numbers of buyers that had this happen to them.

The warranty is pretty much average. The years may vary a bit but most warranties (though not all) do not cover anything more than manufacturing defects.
If severe damage is done to the bag while being handled by the airline there is the possibilty of reporting the damage and receive reimbursement. They will not cover wear and tear though.
A carry on that weighs in at 7 lbs. can't really be considered to be lightweight luggage, but it's not very heavy either.
Material and Durability of the Rainbow Bags
These hardsides are made with ABS plastic. This is a common material when manufacturing luggage, because of its durable properties. It is often used for powertool housings, covers, toys (LEGO!) and in general where impact resistence combined with strength and stiffness are wanted.
This is a short but cool video on how ABS plastic can be molded using vacuum! Not a suitcase being made here, but the process is the same.
ABS plastic is also a good choice from an environmental perspective, since it can easily and with retained properties be recycled and used for making new items.
Sounds like a great material for luggage! This is also reflected in the reviews we have read, where the common view is that "It holds up very well".
Some of the users that gave the bags poor reviews complained about the luggage getting black scuff marks from the handling when checked in. The bags have a glossy finish and are lightly colored, and so marks will show more easily than on darker luggage with a matt finish.
One suggestion is to use a suitcase cover when checking the Rainbow luggage, perhaps a transparent one so the lovely colors and stripes are still visible. This will protect the bag's surface from scratches and marks.
Overall we are happy with the durability properties of these bags, perhaps with a notation about the scuff marks.
Wheels and Handles
The wheels are double spinner wheels, that pivot 360 degrees giving you easy maneuverability when pushing the bag beside you. Remember to watch out when letting go of the bag since it will slide away from you if there is a slight slope.
We have a small question mark for the wheels on the largest suitcase, which becomes heavy when fully packed. One buyer had a very distressing experience when traveling with the 28" bag and two wheels broke in the middle of the jungle. However, since we haven't really seen other serious complaints concerning the spinner wheels there is the possibility that this buyer received the luggage equivalent of a "Friday car". No comfort when it happens to you of course.
We are very happy about the handles! The telescopic push-button handle retracts fully when you don't need it and push it down. It's a double-bar that feels sturdy and reliable.
There are also both top and side carry handles on all sizes. Always convenient when you need to lift the bag into and onto overhead bins, trunks and beds.
Locking the Rainbow Spinners
There is no integrated lock on these bags. If you want to lock them you have to get a padlock for the zipper pulls. Make sure you get a TSA recognized lock for the bags you check. If you use a regular padlock you risk getting your lock torn off the bag with damage done to the zippers. A TSA lock allows the customs to use a master key that opens the lock and then they can lock it again after inspection of the contents.
The Rainbow luggage is fully lined with a Nicole Miller signature lining, in a color that follows the exterior coloring. Pretty!
On one side is a zippered panel that closes completely, and on the other is a cross-strap. Nothing fancy but will keep your belongings in place.
Who Is the Nicole Miller Rainbow Luggage For?
Everyone who loves colors and pretty patterns will adore this hard shell luggage. Considering the many color variations there is bound to be one that is for you. For the fashion and design lover, these bags are hard to resist.
We believe that they are more for city adventures than exploring the rainforest. Seeing they are equipped with white zippers and handles and a glossy finish they don't really do well in wildlife settings, and are designed more for city streets and hotel lobbies.
Summary and Conclusion
This is not a high priced item, and we believe it to be well worth the money. Our only reservation is the tendency for checked bags to get scuff marks from the rough handling due to the light colors and glossy finish. We agree with the reviewer who says "Its not about the easy scratch, its the way luggage is being handle is bad. The luggage got quality ".
Because of this we recommend that you get a transparent suitcase cover if you buy the larger suitcases and need to check them.
As for the carry on size this is obvioulsy not an issue.
