Going on a long haul flight, or perhaps a long-drawn train ride? Want time to pass quickly, and to arrive at your destination feeling alert and refreshed? You know what you need to do, right? 😉
Well, sleep of course! But on a plane with noises, lights and no bed in sight that is not always the easiest thing to do. It’s hard to relax properly when you’re stuck in a plane seat. Perhaps your neighbor is playing a movie on the laptop with a constantly changing screen. Lights are turned on and off, and your neck is starting to feel stiff.
But where there is a problem, there is also someone working out solutions to that problem! As is our commitment here at Travel Gear Depot we have searched the web for you to find some tips and aids to help you get your beauty sleep onboard 🙂 Read on for the travel sleep accessories we found and love!
Why You Need A Travel Pillow
You know that moment when you’ve fallen asleep sitting up in your seat, and your head tilts forward? Not only do you get startled and wake up but it can really hurt your neck as well. Or, if your head does not fall forward, it slowly tilts to the side, you sleep on for a while and end up with a stiff and hurting neck. Ouch.
That’s why you need a travel pillow! They come in many shapes, so look around and find the one that suits YOU the best!
The Benefits Of Using A Sleep Mask
To tell the brain that sleep is presently on the agenda, light is a crucial factor. When light enters through the eyes it hits specialized cells in the retina. These cells communicate with the brain, which interprets the light input as meaning daytime = time to be awake.
When on a plane, train or perhaps a bus, there is often light around us from outside, from lamps and from device screens. Closing your eyes doesn’t really help either, cause light easily penetrates the eyelids. So, what to do?
Yep, you guessed right 😉 Use a sleeping mask of course! You may find it awkward at first, but trust us, once you get used to it you will not want to be without. It makes you fall and stay asleep so much easier and better! Chances are you’ll want to use it at home in your own bed as well.
Stay Warm And Cosy With A Travel Blanket
It’s very hard to sleep well if you’re freezing! And it also makes your body feel safe and snug if you are covered with a light blanket.
Now I can hear you protest, doesn’t the airline provide blankets onboard? Well, if you travel business or first class they may. But if you’re like most of us and buy economy or coach tickets, you will find that blankets are scarce if they exist at all.
Silence Please! Ear Plugs For Your Privacy
All you want to do is sleep, and all the couple behind you want to do is talk and laugh. Now they do have a right to do that, but you most definitely also have a right to sleep.
Actually, this need not be a problem at all. You did bring your earplugs, right? Thought you did 😉 If you’re not happy with the ones you chose, try another kind next time, there are plenty more in the store!
Reduce Noise While Listening To Calming Music or Meditations – Use Travel Headphones!
You have your travel pillow and are comfortable and relaxed in your seat, the sleep mask is on, the travel blanket makes you feel snug and the ear plugs keep out the chit chat from your fellow passengers. And still, you can’t fall asleep. What’s missing?
Something that always works for me, because it keeps my mind from ranting, is listening to soft music, white noise or sleep meditations. To be honest, this is not merely a travel sleep tip. This works whenever and wherever I am.
So get yourself a pair of noise reducing and comfortable headphones, download some calming music and a meditation app of your choice, and drift away into dreamland… Nighty-night!
